South Korean sales agent FineCut has sealed a raft of deals at Pusan International Film Festival¡¯s Asian Film Market including Lee Chang-dong¡¯s Poetry which sold to Edko for Hong Kong.
The film also sold to Siglo and Kinoeye for Japan, Clap Filmes for Portugal, National Film Organization for Syria, and Folkets Bio for Sweden. All in all, the film which premiered in Cannes competition, has sold to 20 territories so far.
¡°For new titles, we are in keen discussions after the first market screening here,¡± says Youngjoo Suh, head of Finecut.
Among them, Catch Play (Taiwan) bought Cyrano Agency and Troubleshooter. Sky Media (inflight rights) also picked up the same two films.
¡°We highly expect to close further deals with Asian distributors including Japan until AFM,¡± she added.
Argentinean director Pablo Trapero¡¯s Oscar contender Carancho, which Finecut co-produced and which was at Un Certain Regard in Cannes this year, did further deals for Turkey (Filmarti) and Taiwan (Catch Play).
Korean War movie 71-Into The Fire also sold to CTV for France, Eagle for Taiwan, and STG for Thailand.
Hong Sang-soo¡¯s Cannes entry Hahaha also sold to Fideicomiso Para la Cineteca National for Mexico, and Emphasis for world-wide inflight rights.
The cute dog movie Hearty Paws 2 was sold to AV-JET for Taiwan.
