Finecut sells Chaw to Australia¡¯s Madman

South Korean sales company Finecut has announced a slew of Toronto deals, led by black comedy Chaw which has been sold to Madman Entertainment for Australia.
The man-eating boar film also sold to Optimum Releasing for the UK earlier at Toronto, and had previously been sold to 16 other countries including Germany, Singapore and India.
In addition, Finecut sold Ounie Lecomte¡¯s debut A Brand New Life to Sahamongkol for Thailand. The film had previously been sold to France (Diaphana), Hong Kong (Edko Films) and Benelux (Cineart) among others. The Korea-France co-production will be released in Korea on about 80 screens on October 29.
Finecut also pre-sold Iris: The Movie to MFA+ Film Distribution for German-speaking Europe. Starring Lee Byung-hun from G.I. Joe and The Good, The Bad, The Weird, the film is also attracting interest from Japan. It is due for completion by early 2010.
In addition Lee Yoon-ki¡¯s My Dear Enemy was sold to Cineasie for Canada, while thriller The Chaser sold to Calinos Entertainment for Turkey. US distribution company Media Blaster took horror films A Blood Pledge and Hansel And Gretel.
For Pusan¡¯s upcoming Asian Film Market, Finecut has picked up Desire To Kill (working title), directed by Owen Cho and Kim Sang-hwa. A black comedy and thriller, the film is about a man hospitalised in the same room as his wife¡¯s killer.
In the Pusan International Film Festival itself, Finecut has the Argentinean title Anita, directed by Marcos Carnevale, about the 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires seen through the eyes of a young woman with Down syndrome. The film is set for an international premiere at Pusan.
