Finecut has announced a slew of deals for Miracle In Cell No. 7 ?the record-breaking hit of the year in Korea which is clocking up over 12 million admissions.
The heartwarming drama sold to Japan (Comstock Group), Taiwan (Flash Forward Entertainment), Hong Kong (Intercontinental Film Distributor) and Thailand (JoyNContents).
Directed by Lee Hwan-kyung and locally distributed by Next Entertainment World (NEW), the film is about a falsely imprisoned man with the IQ of a child whose six-year-old daughter is sneaked into his cell.
“It’s an extremely touching film. For us, it’s I Am Sam meets The Green Mile meets Life Is Beautiful. The father-daughter relationship and collective effort from cellmates are universal and could be identified by our audience,?says Flash Forward Entertainment managing director Patrick Mao Huang.
Finecut also sold romantic comedy Love 911, starring Ko Soo and Han Hyo-joo, to Japan (Twin), Taiwan (Eagle International) and Vietnam theatrical rights only to Lotte Cinema.
The sales company’s Filmart slate includes Hong Sang-soo’s Nobody’s Daughter Haewon and In Another Country, which are screening in the Hong Kong International Film Festival’s Maters & Auteurs: Master Class section, and crime thriller New World, which previously sold to North America, France and Germany.
