Finecut sells Poongsan to Japan's Asia Films

South Korean sales company Finecut has announced a slew of deals done at the Asian Film Market and Mipcom which include the Busan festival title Poongsan to Asia Films for Japan.

Written and produced by Kim Ki-duk and directed by his protege Juhn Jai-hong, Poongsan previously did pre-sales to Pretty Pictures for French-speaking territories. Poongsan will make its international premiere at the upcoming Rome Film Festival's Competition and will also be in the Tokyo Filmex Competition.

Buyer Asia Films previously released Crossing, another Finecut title, which grossed $1.2m at the Japanese box office.

Finecut also announced that Korea's top-grossing domestic feature animation Leafie, which clocked up 2.2 million admissions at the local box office, sold to Lanterna de Pedra Filmes Unipessoal Lda for Portugal, CP Digital for ex-USSR excluding Baltic States and Pratama Film for Indonesia.

Leafie recently had a wide theatrical release in China by Dadi and screened in Mipjunior as well as in the Busan fest's Open Cinema section.

The Berlin short film Golden Bear winner Night Fishing, co-directed by brothers Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyong under their directorial label "PARKing CHANce" also sold to Japan (Crest International).

Finecut's other deals for Japan include Hello Ghost to Twin and fantasy thriller Hansel and Gretel to Asia Films.

The company also sold Asian Film Market titles Blind, The Cat and Unstoppable Family to Eagle International for Taiwan.
