Korea's Finecut Sells 'Poongsan' and 'Leafie'

HONG KONG -- Korean animated feature Leafie and the Kim Ki-duk-produced Poongsan reaped a fine harvest for Seoul-based sales agent Finecut at the Asian Film Market in Busan and MIPCOM in Cannes.

Leafie, the highest-grossing domestically-made animated feature of all time in Korea with 2.2 million domestic admissions, was sold to Portugal¡¯s Lanterna de Pedra Filmes Unipessoal, Russia¡¯s CP Digital (excluding Baltic States), and Indonesia¡¯s Pratama Film. The animation was recently released in China by Dadi.

Japan¡¯s Asia Films picked up Poongsan, written and produced by Kim Ki-duk, directed by Juhn Jaihong, and an in-competition selection in the upcoming Tokyo Filmex, and the fantasy thriller Hansel and Gretel. Poongsan had been previously sold to Pretty Pictures for French-speaking territories.

Finecut also cut deals with Japan¡¯s Crest International for the Berlin Golden Bear winning short Night Fishing, co-directed by Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyong under their directorial label ¡°PARKing CHANce,¡± and Hello Ghost to Japan¡¯s Twin.

Other Finecut titles including Blind, The Cat, and Unstoppable Family were sold to Taiwan¡¯s Eagle International at the Asian Film Market.
